The Ministry of Health of Jujuy announced on March 11 a series of community events to mark the 20th World Kidney Day, focusing on raising awareness about kidney health and promoting preventive habits.
The initiative aims to highlight the importance of early detection, regular check-ups, and timely medical consultations for maintaining kidney health. The campaign is held under the theme “Taking care of your kidneys is taking care of your health.”
Cristina Stepanenko, head of the Nephrology Service at Hospital Pablo Soria, said, “Controlling blood pressure regularly and knowing your blood sugar levels are key actions for kidney health, as well as maintaining healthy habits such as a balanced diet, proper hydration, and regular physical activity.” Stepanenko also noted that depending on individual cases, additional tests like renal ultrasounds and specific urine analyses may be required.
Currently, the nephrology service has 15 patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis and works in coordination with renal transplant teams and the CERCA Clinic (Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease), which has so far received 17 patients referred from different parts of the province.
Chronic Kidney Disease is recognized as a global health issue. In its advanced stages it can lead to end-stage renal failure requiring treatments such as dialysis or kidney transplantation. Early detection and ongoing medical supervision are considered essential.
Activities scheduled for Thursday, March 12 include a walk titled “Walking Together for Kidney Health” starting at 7:30 a.m., with a route through several city landmarks. In case of rain, activities will move to Multiespacio General Arias. Additional events will take place in the main hall of Hospital Pablo Soria from 10 a.m. to noon, offering health checks, information sessions, counseling services, HIV and syphilis testing, access to contraceptive methods, and recreational dance activities.
