The Ministry of Health of Jujuy announced on April 1 a community event called “¿TEAnimás?” to mark World Autism Awareness Day, which is observed every year on April 2. The initiative aims to encourage reflection and raise awareness about the support and inclusion needs of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families.
According to the ministry, a committed society can help improve well-being and promote the development of children living with ASD. In Jujuy, public health services offer specialized diagnosis and comprehensive therapeutic care for neurodevelopmental disorders through the Provincial Directorate of Disability and Social Inclusion. This work is carried out at CRENNA, a center located in Alto Comedero that focuses on early diagnosis and interdisciplinary therapy for children, including those with ASD profiles.
To commemorate World Autism Awareness Day, the ministry invites residents to attend “¿TEAnimás?” on Thursday, April 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon at CEMIR (M. AP 8 L2, Second Stage Tupac Amaru), in Alto Comedero.
Autism spectrum disorders are developmental disabilities that may affect communication skills, social interaction, and behavior. Estimates suggest that one in every hundred children has autism, with boys being five times more likely than girls to be diagnosed. The Argentine Society of Pediatrics says clinical signs often appear before eighteen months old but become more evident as the child grows.
The presence of warning signs does not necessarily mean a child has autism but may indicate they need developmental guidance. Early detection and timely family support are considered crucial by health authorities.
For further information or consultations regarding ASD services or concerns about child development milestones such as speech delay or loss of social skills at any age, individuals can contact the Provincial Directorate for Disability at phone number 388-4245500 extensions 5805/5806 or reach CRENNA directly at CEMIR in San Salvador de Jujuy by calling 388-4042306.
