The Ministry of Health of Jujuy announced on March 21 a new schedule for descacharrado activities in the capital city, aimed at controlling the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which transmits dengue and chikungunya.
These actions are part of ongoing efforts to reduce mosquito breeding sites by eliminating objects and containers that can collect water. The ministry said health teams will conduct descacharrado across different sectors of San Salvador de Jujuy, place ovitraps in homes, monitor areas where mosquitoes lay eggs, and reinforce preventive measures door-to-door.
The scheduled descacharrado operations will begin each day at 8:30 a.m. On Wednesday, March 25, activities will take place in the CAPS 820 Viviendas area covering the 820 Viviendas and Malvinas neighborhoods. Thursday, March 26 is set for CAPS Campo Verde area including the neighborhoods of 9 de Julio, Ascasubi, Campo Verde, and Mina Lea. On Friday, March 27, efforts will focus on CAPS 337 Viviendas area with coverage in the neighborhoods of 284 Viviendas and 337 Viviendas in Alto Comedero.
The ministry provided guidance on preventing dengue and chikungunya by removing all potential mosquito breeding sites from homes. Residents are encouraged to discard unused containers that may hold water such as cans, bottles, tires, toys, metal sheets, small pools or tanks; turn over outdoor objects that could collect rainwater; change animal drinking water daily; replace flower vase water with moist sand; clean air conditioner drains and gutters; cover water storage tanks; and clear weeds from yards.
To avoid mosquito bites, people should use repellents as directed on packaging, wear light-colored clothing that covers arms and legs especially during outdoor activities, install screens on doors and windows or use netting for cribs and strollers. The use of fans or air conditioning is also recommended when possible along with environmental repellents like tablets or coils.
Anyone experiencing symptoms such as high fever, muscle or joint pain, general discomfort, abdominal pain or headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or skin redness should seek immediate medical attention at their nearest health center or hospital. Virtual consultations are available every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through https://salud.jujuy.gob.ar/asistenciavirtual/.
