The Minister of Education, Daniela Teseira, led a meeting with representatives from the Directorate of Water Resources and the College of Technicians of Jujuy to coordinate actions for implementing Project Matteo in educational institutions across the province on March 25.
Project Matteo is an educational, scientific, and university extension initiative aimed at public and private schools at all levels and modalities. The project addresses a significant issue in Argentina related to the limited availability of information needed for sustainable water resource management.
According to the Ministry, the Directorate of Water Resources supports this citizen-driven project because it will generate updated rainfall and hydrometeorological data for developing water infrastructure projects. The educational component encourages students to ask questions, investigate, record observations, and discuss findings so they can view the world through a scientific lens from an early age.
The meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration between educational and technical sectors as more schools are encouraged to join this initiative. Attendees included Carolina Lui Saravia (Directorate of Early Education), Mauricio Navarro (Directorate of Technical Professional Education), Cecilia Coronel and MarÃa del Rosario Pereyra (Directorate of Water Resources), and Raúl Vega (President of the College of Technicians).
The effort reflects ongoing work by provincial authorities to strengthen science education while addressing local environmental challenges.
