Governor Carlos Sadir met with Stelios Georgiados, the ambassador of Cyprus in Argentina, on April 7 to discuss ways to strengthen cultural exchange between Jujuy and Cyprus. The meeting took place at the governor’s office and focused on promoting bilateral relations in tourism and culture.
The topic is important as both regions aim to enhance mutual understanding through shared traditions and collaborative events. Officials said that increasing these exchanges could benefit local communities by highlighting unique cultural aspects.
Several provincial ministers attended the meeting, including Federico Cardozo (Minister of Finance), Normando Álvarez García (Minister of Government, Justice, Human Rights and Labor), Federico Posadas (Minister of Culture and Tourism), Diego Valdecantos (Secretary of Tourism), and José Rodríguez Bárcena (Secretary of Culture).
One focus was the promotion of Jujuy’s traditional carnival. After visiting the Salón de la Bandera at Casa de Gobierno, participants discussed how both regions share similarities in their carnival celebrations. Ambassador Georgiados said: “hablamos con el gobernador de varios temas sobre similitudes culturales, en especial el Carnaval de Jujuy tradicional con el carnaval nuestro que une América Latina y Europa.” He also mentioned plans for a future visit with other European Union ambassadors to experience Jujuy’s carnival firsthand.
Georgiados noted his tour through local sites such as Termas de Reyes, Tilcara, and Purmamarca. “Jujuy tiene una espectacular artesanía y la amabilidad de la gente es única,” he said.
The meeting signals ongoing efforts to build bridges between Latin America and Europe through cultural events like carnivals. Officials expect further visits from international representatives will deepen these connections.
