On Thursday, November 13, the Ministry of Education of Jujuy held a signing ceremony for the “Municipio Alfabetizador” Agreement at the Ministerial Complex. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation between the provincial government, municipalities, and municipal commissions from several localities including San Salvador de Jujuy, San Pedro, Humahuaca, El Piquete, Santa Clara, Palma Sola, Perico, Palpalá, El Carmen, San Antonio, Abra Pampa, Pampa Blanca and Purmamarca.
Minister of Education Miriam Serrano led the event. She highlighted that the Provincial Literacy Plan—approved by Ministerial Resolution No. 822-E-24—seeks to expand reading and writing practices in communities and encourage digital inclusion through basic technologies.
“I want to express with great pride that our province is the only one that approaches literacy together with municipalities,” said Serrano. She emphasized that reading opens doors not just for children but also for adults and encouraged renewed value for language within Jujuy’s culture: “Because we are all the school,” she added.
Julio Alarcón, Secretary of Socioeducational Policies, stated during his speech that the challenge of this plan is to create a network of public policies encouraging collective action. He noted it is important for teachers to feel supported by other social sectors—in this case municipalities—and called on families to help promote reading and writing beyond classrooms.
“It is an opportunity for municipalities to become catalysts for the Social Agreement on Literacy by generating spaces for inter-institutional, community and neighborhood participation,” Alarcón concluded.
Through this agreement, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to actively participate in training municipal representatives as well as monitoring and evaluating program progress while fostering cooperation with other state agencies.
