The Ministry of Health of Jujuy Province has announced that its Intercultural Health and Telemedicine Network has been nominated for the 2025 Martín Fierro Salud Awards. The nomination is in the category of Equitable Access to Health, and the award ceremony will take place on November 18 in Buenos Aires. The awards are organized by the Association of Journalists of Argentine Television and Radio (APTRA).
“It is a great joy for the entire health team of Jujuy Province who have been working precisely on what corresponds to the nomination, which is accessibility, equality, and interculturality,” said Gustavo Bouhid, Minister of Health of Jujuy. He added, “In those small towns that are very remote, even at 4,500 meters above sea level, which have not had contact with the health system except for medical tours every three or six months, we have implemented teleassistance with the concept of population under care.”
Bouhid explained that this strategy involves local health agents—often members of their own communities—who support prevention efforts and monitor people with chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and hypertension. Through teleassistance, a physician can oversee each health post as a primary care doctor and facilitate consultations with specialists using technology. “We are very happy about this nomination; there is great work from the entire provincial health team and, of course, this recognition is for them,” he said.
The Jujuy Telemedicine Network shares its category with Córdoba’s Provincial Telehealth Network, Hospital Garrahan in Buenos Aires City, and Buenos Aires Province’s Bonaerense Health Network. Since the pandemic began, Jujuy’s network has become an essential service for community access to healthcare as outlined in its Strategic Health Plan II. The use of technology has helped shorten distances between patients and providers, reduce response times, ensure access to consultations—including specialist referrals—and improve follow-up care for people living far from urban centers. The network also coordinates with leaders from indigenous communities.
Public health teams in Jujuy have reached very remote areas through nearly 5,000 consultations since starting operations in northern parts of the province. The number of participating health posts has grown across both Quebrada and Puna regions where pediatricians and adult medicine doctors provide ongoing support.
The first edition of the Martín Fierro Salud Awards aims to honor those who sustain, transform or innovate daily in healthcare across categories such as Health Education; Socially Committed Research; Technology Applied to Health; and Communication and Outreach.
