The Provincial Directorate of Statistics and Censuses, which is part of the Ministry of Finance and Economy in Jujuy, announced on Apr. 9 that it is continuing to carry out the Hotel Occupancy Survey. The agency said this ongoing effort aims to provide clear and detailed information about the scope, methodology, and relevance of the data collected.
The Hotel Occupancy Survey has been conducted in Jujuy since 2004. It began by covering only establishments located in San Salvador de Jujuy but later expanded its geographic coverage as tourism activity grew across different regions of the province. The expansion was driven by a need for more precise and representative statistical information on tourism trends.
According to the statement, starting in December 2025, national-level funding for the survey was reduced. This led to a decrease in staff working on the project. Despite these challenges, officials say that operations have continued due to the commitment of their team as well as institutional support from both DiPEC and the provincial government through its finance ministry.
The agency describes the Hotel Occupancy Survey as an essential tool for analyzing tourism activity within Jujuy. It allows authorities to measure hotel sector performance, track changes in tourism over time, generate key indicators for decision-making, and help design public policies based on reliable information.
Officials provided a video link with further details about how they are maintaining this statistical work under current conditions.
