Authorities in Jujuy announced on March 20 that the province will host an Ironman competition in 2027, following a technical meeting at the Cabildo de Jujuy between provincial officials and directors of the international franchise.
The event is expected to take place at La Ciénaga dam for the swimming segment, while cycling and running stages will be held in San Salvador. Organizers say this integration aims to position Jujuy within the global circuit for high-performance athletes.
Rubén Sciutto, shareholder of Ironman Argentina, said efforts are underway to bring a world-class event that local residents can experience for the first time. “La provincia cuenta con la infraestructura necesaria para cumplir con los estándares de seguridad que exige la marca,” Sciutto said.
Officials highlight that hosting Ironman marks a milestone for regional sports due to the scale of logistics involved and the economic impact generated by foreign competitors. Technical teams are currently working on defining race circuits to ensure global visibility for the event.
The announcement signals growing interest in bringing major sporting events to new regions and could have lasting effects on tourism and athletic development in Jujuy.
