Medical teams from SAME assisted passengers following the activation of a security protocol at Dr. Horacio Guzmán International Airport, according to an April 9 statement.
The incident led to the evacuation of a plane carrying 180 people, including six crew members. Pablo Jure, director of SAME, said, “Two people remained in a special situation with police personnel and the rest were supported before undergoing police and medical checks.”
Jure reported that ten individuals received assistance for various issues triggered by fear during the incident. “We had ten assistances, not only caused by fear but also leading to high blood pressure, some headaches and anxiety attacks,” he said.
To address these needs, Jure explained that they brought “a team of three psychologists, two doctors and two ambulances” to manage the situation. He added that initial basic care was provided: “We gave initial basic attention with vital sign checks for those who needed it and some medications such as for headaches.” The response also included emotional support; Jure stated: “We came with mental health professionals who could provide support.” He concluded that “within the whole situation, it was well handled by the passengers.”
The event highlights emergency preparedness measures at airports when facing potential threats or emergencies requiring passenger evacuation.
