The Ministry of Education, through the Directorate of Comprehensive Educational Support (DAIE), held a course titled “Education in Affectivity and Sexuality (EAyS)” for teachers at all educational levels in the province. The goal was to provide pedagogical tools for addressing topics related to affectivity and sexuality in schools.
A total of 400 teachers from early childhood, primary, secondary, and higher education participated in lectures, active breaks, and reflection spaces designed to enrich their professional practice.
At the start of the event, Minister Miriam Serrano thanked those present for their interest and commitment. She stated: āI hope you take advantage of this space for listening, learning, and reflection so that you return to your classrooms with tools that allow you to manage emotions, neurobiology, and learning in affectivityāfirst among peers and then with boys and girls.ā
Serrano also emphasized that this initiative is part of the ministry’s strategic plan to strengthen support for students’ academic paths across the province.
Julieta Yamin, director of DAIE, highlighted the importance of addressing these topics and acquiring classroom tools relevant to each school’s context. She said: āWe have to continue building classroom spaces where there is presence, listening, and where bonds of trust can be built with our students.ā
MarĆa Franck from the National Directorate of Educational and Cultural Strategies expressed satisfaction with the joint work between national authorities and the province on these cross-cutting educational issues. She noted: āThis meeting was designed from an interdisciplinary perspective to share different approaches and knowledge because these are topics that must be present when we are with students so we can give them a liberating and enriching message that helps them make decisions.ā
The two-day event included presentations by specialists such as HernĆ”n Aldana on neuroscience and education; MarĆa Marta RodrĆguez; and MarĆa InĆ©s Franck on affective-sexual education and child protection. They provided valuable resources for handling sensitive topics responsibly in classrooms.
Through this initiative, the Ministry of Education aims to promote comprehensive education by combining academic content with studentsā emotional, social, and affective development.
