The Ministry of Education, through the Directorate of Comprehensive Educational Support, recently organized a course titled “Education in Affectivity and Sexuality (EAYS)” for 200 teachers working at the initial and primary levels. The aim was to provide educators with pedagogical tools to address topics related to affectivity and sexuality within educational settings.
At the opening of the event, Minister Miriam Serrano expressed gratitude for the teachers’ participation and dedication. “I hope you take advantage of this space for listening, learning, and reflection, so you can return to your classrooms with tools that allow you to manage emotions, neurobiology, and learning in affectivity—first among peers and then with boys and girls,” said Serrano.
Serrano also emphasized that this initiative is part of the ministry’s strategic plan to strengthen support for students’ academic paths across the province. The program included presentations by experts: Hernán Aldana gave a lecture on neuroscience and education; María Marta Rodríguez and María Inés Franck addressed key aspects of affective-sexual education and child protection. They provided practical guidance for responsibly handling these sensitive issues in classrooms.
The course will be repeated on Tuesday for secondary and higher-level teachers. According to the Ministry of Education, this approach supports comprehensive education by integrating academic content with students’ emotional, social, and affective development.
