Miriam Serrano, the Minister of Education of Jujuy, has been appointed vice president of the Federal Council of Education (CFE) for a second term. The decision was made during the 147th Assembly held on November 6 in Buenos Aires.
Her appointment was unanimously approved by all jurisdictions. According to the announcement, this recognition is due to her career, commitment, and leadership in education management. “This appointment consolidates Jujuy’s role as a national reference in education, highlights federal dialogue, and the construction of public policies that strengthen educational quality throughout the country,” stated the ministry.
During the assembly, education authorities from Argentina’s 24 jurisdictions discussed and agreed on key national education policy guidelines. The session was chaired by Carlos Torrendell, Secretary of Education from the Ministry of Human Capital, along with José Thomas, Secretary General of the CFE.
The meeting included confirmation of an academic calendar with 190 school days for 2026 and reaffirmed requirements for primary schools to meet 760 hours and secondary schools 900 hours per year. These measures are aligned with Resolution No. 484/24 and aim to strengthen monitoring of instructional time and ensure recovery in case of interruptions to reach international standards for both quantity and quality in education.
Progress updates were also presented on the National Literacy Plan—which has achieved 90% of its targets—and new directions under the Operational Plan for 2026. Other topics included initiatives related to early childhood education strategies, efforts to strengthen mathematics teaching at a federal level, and new actions from INET regarding technical-professional education.
