The Government of Jujuy announced on April 4 the inauguration of a new Civil Registry office in the historic town of Yavi, located at an altitude of 3,516 meters and more than 300 kilometers from San Salvador de Jujuy.

The opening is part of a broader strategy aimed at decentralizing and strengthening institutions to bring essential services closer to communities, especially those in remote regions. The new office will provide all registry services and will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Fabiana Churquina has been appointed as the head of the Yavi Civil Registry. The facility is expected to directly serve over 271 residents of Yavi and extend its reach to more than 20,000 people across the region. The inauguration event was attended by provincial officials including Octavio Rivas, director of the Provincial Civil Registry; Luis Condori, municipal commissioner of Yavi; Sebastián Colqui, secretary general; Gabriel Tejerina, inspector general; Cecilia Ovejero Leyton, head of human resources; Raúl Mamani from La Quiaca’s registry office; Solange Vera from Yavi’s culture and tourism department; as well as other local authorities and community members.

He also congratulated Churquina for her appointment following a competitive selection process: “Felicito a la señorita Churquina… Ese es el camino que vamos a sostener: profesionalizar, ordenar y seguir ampliando la presencia del Registro Civil en toda la provincia…”

Luis Condori highlighted the historical significance for both Yavi and Jujuy province: “Esto es hacer patria. Yavi siempre hizo patria… Que tengamos hoy aquí la oficina del Registro Civil es un logro de todos… Hay momentos de hacer política y momentos de empujar todos juntos para adelante… el bien para la gente”.

After the inauguration ceremony concluded, attendees visited cultural landmarks such as San Francisco de Asís Church and Casa Museo del Marqués de Tojo—both declared National Historic Heritage sites—guided by staff from the local Secretariat for Culture and Tourism.

Officials say this initiative reaffirms their commitment to building an inclusive state that guarantees access to identity documentation and fundamental rights throughout every part of Jujuy.
