Provincial deputy Ramón Neyra said on April 7 that Jujuy is facing a critical economic, financial, and social situation due to what he described as harsh austerity policies by the national government. Neyra said the province is experiencing “absolute abandonment” from the Nation and attributed this to “merciless adjustment policies implemented by the libertarian government.”
Neyra, a legislator from Frente Jujuy Crece, said that the current economic context “does not represent a simple fiscal reordering,” but rather a “brutal adjustment,” with its cost “falling directly on Jujuy families.” He added: “The sacrifice and suffering are being paid by citizens in their daily lives.”
He called for local representatives aligned with the national administration to respond to these issues. “Faced with such injustice, it is essential that deputies of La Libertad Avanza show their faces,” Neyra said. He continued: “It is necessary for them to tell people in Jujuy what they plan to do and how they will defend their province against this outrage.”
Neyra outlined several areas where he says there has been a systematic withdrawal of support from the national government, including “the elimination of national health programs and the Teacher Incentive Fund (FONID), leaving gaps in health services and funding for educators’ salaries.” He also mentioned “the total removal of transport subsidies” along with halted public works.
One particularly concerning point raised by Neyra was about ending the Potenciar Trabajo program, which he said would mean Jujuy loses nearly $6 billion pesos—a change he called a major blow to spending power in vulnerable neighborhoods. He warned that things could get worse soon if other assistance schemes are affected: “Uncertainty today surrounds thousands of people in Jujuy since Volver al Trabajo covers 43,608 individuals while Fomentar Empleo reaches another 33,392.”
He concluded: “If these relief measures fall apart, libertarians will unleash a catastrophe for thousands upon thousands of families.”
