Officials opened the bids for the concession of the La Quiaca Free Trade Zone on April 7. The event took place in the Salón Blanco at the Casa de Gobierno, with provincial authorities and stakeholders present.
The initiative is seen as a significant step toward boosting international trade and economic development in Jujuy. Governor Carlos Sadir said, “Dimos un paso muy importante.” He also described it as “una obra estratégica que esperamos iniciar antes de fin de año y seguir avanzando en un proyecto que será clave para el crecimiento del comercio internacional y el desarrollo productivo de Jujuy, fortaleciendo nuestra economía local y generando nuevas oportunidades.”
The process was led by Juan Carlos Abud, Minister of Economic Development and Production, who noted that only one bidder met all administrative requirements. Abud said this creates high expectations because it is an innovative proposal. He added that government management has been focused on commercial strategy and highlighted efforts to change the productive structure of Jujuy. “Es un polo de desarrollo que tiene que ser visto de una manera sistémica,” Abud said.
Regarding the importance of the free trade zone, Abud stated: “Para Jujuy es muy importante porque va generar una gran expectativa y un gran crecimiento del comercio internacional, tanto de las exportaciones como de las importaciones.”
Also attending were José Francisco Rossetto, president of Ente de Zona Franca; Lisandro Ganuza, advisor to Zona Franca; provincial deputies Diego Rotela and Patricia Ríos.
The opening of bids marks an important milestone for local officials seeking to position Jujuy as a hub for trade and production.
