The Executive Board of the Parliament of Norte Grande met in Jujuy on March 27, where vice governors addressed pressing issues facing their provinces, including a reduction in shared national funds and deteriorating infrastructure.
The meeting focused on the financial challenges affecting provincial governments. Alberto Bernis, vice governor of Jujuy and host of the session, said that the decrease in coparticipation funds is making it difficult for provinces to pay public sector salaries. “Without money, there is neither love nor social peace,” Bernis said.
Bernis also highlighted concerns about road safety, pointing out that many national roads are in poor condition due to a lack of maintenance by national authorities. He said this situation has led to numerous accidents. Additionally, he mentioned that regional economies are struggling against increased imports and what he described as unfair competition.
Carlos Silva Neder, vice governor of Santiago del Estero, commented on the unity among northern provinces: “In this Norte Grande everything unites us and nothing separates us.” He called for urgent action from the national government to address public works projects that have stalled or been neglected.
The next plenary session for all legislators from the bloc is scheduled for April 13 and 14 in San Miguel de Tucumán. The outcome may determine whether demands from northern provinces receive more attention at the national level.
