The Ministry of Health of Jujuy, through its Secretariat for Mental Health, Addictions and Disability, organized the first edition of the photography contest “With Every Gesture, a Care” as part of Mental Health Month. The event was open to amateur and professional photographers over 18 years old and aimed to highlight and celebrate small daily acts of care for oneself and others.

A total of 62 participants from Jujuy, Tucumán, Córdoba, Buenos Aires, Brazil, Germany, the United States, Mexico, and Australia submitted 90 digital pieces. The contest was part of the campaign “With Every Gesture, a Care,” which seeks to promote mental health awareness and encourage reflection on everyday gestures that can support or comfort others.

The jury included photographers Walter Reinaga and Ismael Acosta from Jujuy; Lucía Pietro and Martín Luce from Buenos Aires; and Florencia Guedes from the Communications Area at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

The winner for 2025 was Agustina Ayelén Flores from San Salvador de Jujuy with her work “Qué bueno tenerte.” Flores said: “This image captures the essence of mutual support and reminds us that love nourishes and promotes daily emotional well-being. It shows that the deepest care is found in the certainty of feeling unconditionally loved and accompanied. What greater protection exists than the hand that still holds you?”

Special mentions were given to Juan Pablo Eijo from La Plata for his photo “Lazo de amor,” about a young man with Down syndrome participating in an integrative dance class. Eijo stated: “A young man with Down syndrome participates in an Integrative Dance class—a discipline seeking to address social issues around disability integration through an artistic-educational system that benefits from diversity.”

Another special mention went to Ana Claudia Talieri from Brazil for her piece “Amor genuino.” Talieri described her work: “The photograph portrays a mother’s dedication to her son with cerebral palsy—made up of silent days, sacrifices, and courage. She learns every gesture, celebrates small victories, faces fatigue with love. Even when facing fears or uncertainties she remains steadfast because her heart knows how to turn pain into strength and care into hope.”

An exhibition open to the community is planned so people can view these works in person. Awards will also be presented to winning photographers.
