President Javier Milei met on April 8 with gendarme Nahuel Gallo at Casa Rosada. This was their first meeting since Gallo’s return to Argentina, following his release after spending 448 days detained in Venezuela.
The meeting took place in the presidential office and included Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, Security Minister Alejandra Monteoliva, Senator Patricia Bullrich, and National Director of Gendarmerie Claudio Miguel Brilloni. During the discussion, Gallo described his experience during captivity under Nicolás Maduro’s government.
According to information provided by officials present at the meeting, President Milei acknowledged efforts made across different sectors to secure Gallo’s freedom. The gathering also featured an exchange of gifts: President Milei gave Gallo a jersey from the Argentine national soccer team, referencing symbols he reportedly improvised while detained to maintain his connection with Argentina. In return, Gallo presented the president with an Argentine poncho and a box of alfajores as a gesture of gratitude.
This event marks a significant moment for both parties involved after more than a year of diplomatic efforts leading up to Gallo’s release.
