The Provincial Directorate of Water Resources, part of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Public Services, Land and Housing, announced on May 10 that it is conducting cleaning, clearing, and maintenance work on water channels and strategic points in the Valles and Ramal regions. The current focus is on San Salvador de Jujuy, San Pedro, and La Mendieta.
These activities are part of the Provincial Water Plan. The plan includes annual projects such as protection works, clearing vegetation from riverbanks, channel cleaning, improvements to irrigation systems and water sources. These efforts aim to reduce flood risks in urban areas while protecting or supplying productive zones across all four regions of the province.
In San Salvador de Jujuy, teams are working on cleaning and clearing near the Senador Pérez bridge in the city center. They are also removing blockages under bridges and culverts along various tributaries of Las Martas Stream to improve overall water flow in that area.
Additional tasks include vegetation removal with local cooperatives and upgrades to crossings in Barrio Tupac Amaru Alto Comedero. In San Pedro de Jujuy’s La Mendieta neighborhood (12 de Octubre), crews are maintaining rainwater collector channels. Cleaning operations continue along several points of the San Pedro Stream as these works approach their final stages.
Officials said these ongoing projects support both urban safety from flooding hazards and agricultural productivity by ensuring reliable irrigation.
