The province of Jujuy hosted the Raid de los Andes, a trail running competition held on May 9 and 10 in the Quebrada de Humahuaca. The event attracted hundreds of runners, their companions, and enthusiasts to various towns in the region, resulting in increased economic activity for local tourism and commerce sectors.
Organizers reported that the influx of visitors led to high demand for hotels, restaurants, tourist services, local shops, and artisans. Hotel occupancy rates peaked at 95% in Purmamarca during the event.
The competition took place among natural settings recognized for their scenic and cultural value. Officials said it helped position Jujuy as an ideal destination for sports tourism and nature-based experiences.
Minister of Culture and Tourism Federico Posadas attended the event along with Secretary of Tourism Diego Valdecantos, Director of Tourist Promotion Melina Ainstein, and Coordinator Santiago GarcÃa Gnecco. They said it is important to continue supporting events that combine sports, tourism, and local development.
According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, such initiatives strengthen Jujuy’s reputation as a host for national and international events while promoting economic growth across all four regions through year-round tourism activities.
With the landscape of Quebrada de Humahuaca as its backdrop, organizers said Raid de los Andes provided not only unique sights but also tangible benefits for workers in tourism, entrepreneurs, and local communities involved in creating experiences for visitors.
