Silvina Rosa Drago, a 56-year-old biochemist and researcher at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET), was found dead on April 3 in her home in the Candioti neighborhood of Santa Fe. Authorities say her partner, Héctor Riego, aged 63, is the main suspect and was also found dead at the scene.
The incident has drawn attention due to its violent nature and the professional background of those involved. The case is being investigated by the Homicide Unit of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
According to police sources, Drago was shot eight times while lying in bed. Riego was discovered in the bathroom with a single gunshot wound to his mouth and a .635 caliber pistol in his hand. Investigators believe that before taking his own life, Riego attempted to kill both family dogs; one died from a gunshot wound while another survived with minor injuries and is now under veterinary care.
The bodies were discovered by Drago’s sister and brother-in-law after they became concerned when she did not respond to phone calls or follow her usual routine. Upon entering through an unlocked door, they first encountered one deceased dog before finding Drago’s body inside her bedroom. Shocked by what they saw, they immediately called emergency services.
Forensic examination suggests both victims had been dead for approximately 24 hours prior to discovery. However, officials state that precise details regarding time of death will be determined following autopsy results. The investigation remains ongoing under prosecutor Estanislao Giavedoni.
