River Plate defeated Belgrano 3-0 at the Monumental Stadium on April 5, with Tomás Galván scoring twice and Facundo Colidio adding a header, during the thirteenth round of the Apertura tournament.
The result keeps River among the top teams in their group with 23 points. The victory also comes ahead of an important week for River, as they prepare to face Racing in Avellaneda next weekend and then debut against Blooming in Bolivia for the CONMEBOL Sudamericana on Wednesday.
In the opening minutes, River created several clear chances. Sebastián Driussi struck a shot that hit the post and rolled across the goal line, while Lautaro Rivero’s left-footed attempt narrowly missed. Driussi continued to threaten but was denied by goalkeeper Thiago Cardozo. Belgrano responded with a header from a set piece, but Santiago Beltrán made a strong save.
Tomás Galván opened the scoring late in the first half after capitalizing on a rebound following another close-range effort by Driussi. Early in the second half, Juan Cruz Meza delivered a cross from the right that Facundo Colidio headed into goal for River’s second. Galván secured his brace near full time with a low shot across goal.
This win strengthens River’s position near the top of their zone as they look ahead to upcoming domestic and international fixtures.
