Rosario Central defeated Independiente 3-1 at the Gigante de Arroyito stadium and secured a spot in the next stage of the Liga Profesional, according to a May 10 announcement.
The match is significant as it allows Rosario Central to continue competing for the title, while Independiente is eliminated from the tournament.
Ángel Di María opened the scoring for Rosario Central at 46 minutes into the first half. Giovanni Cantizano added another goal at 38 minutes in the second half, and Elías Verón sealed the result with a third goal at 46 minutes of that period. Gabriel Ávalos scored Independiente’s only goal at 35 minutes into the first half.
From early on, Rosario Central controlled possession and created more dangerous chances, while Independiente focused on counterattacks. The statistics reflected this dominance: Rosario Central had 60% possession compared to Independiente’s 40%, recorded fourteen shots on target against six from their opponent, and completed 367 passes versus Avellaneda’s team’s 198.
Despite an intense match with no red cards, Rosario Central maintained its lead and finished strongly in front of home fans who filled Gigante de Arroyito stadium. With this win, Rosario Central moves forward in pursuit of the championship.
