The Ministry of Culture and Tourism announced on May 18 the start of Semana de los Museos, opening more than 30 cultural spaces across the province with free entry. The event will run from May 18 to May 24, offering workshops, night walks, talks, exhibitions, and film screenings from San Salvador to the Puna.
The initiative aims to bring Jujuy’s heritage closer to its people by organizing activities such as ceramics and archaeology sessions, weaving and photography workshops, live music performances, guided tours, and a multisensory nighttime experience. The Red de Museos de Jujuy is coordinating programming under this year’s international theme: “Museums uniting a divided world,” which encourages viewing museums as living places for meeting, memory, and identity.
Federico Posadas, Minister of Culture and Tourism of Jujuy Province, said: “Comienza la Semana de los Museos con actividades culturales, coordinando a todos los centros culturales que hay a lo largo y a lo ancho de la provincia.”
Among the venues hosting multiple events is FHyCS – UNJu (Canónigo Gorriti 237), open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 6 pm with exhibitions and debates. Other highlights include children’s pottery workshops at Museo del Cabildo; photographic conservation sessions at FHyCS; sustainability talks at Hotel Huacalera; dance performances in Las Yungas; outdoor nature walks at Parque Botánico Municipal; special accessibility initiatives at Museo Jorge Mendoza; traditional crafts in Lozano; community memory projects in Coranzulí; and tributes to local poets in Abra Pampa.
The week-long program also marks international occasions such as the Day for Web Accessibility Awareness. In addition to museum-based activities for all ages across regions like Quebrada and Yungas, several institutions will offer guided tours for schools or launch new exhibits—such as Museo de Ciencias Naturales Dr. Saturnino Iglesias reopening on May 29 for its anniversary.
Semana de los Museos is part of an annual global initiative that invites cultural spaces to strengthen ties with their communities. Organizers say this year’s edition ensures federal coverage so that no resident misses out on participation.
