Journalist Sofía Martínez said on April 11 that Antonela Roccuzzo, wife of footballer Lionel Messi, sent her a supportive message following online rumors about an alleged flirtation between Martínez and Messi. The comments began after the 2022 World Cup semifinal in Qatar, when viewers interpreted an emotional interview between Martínez and Messi as flirtatious.

The incident gained attention on social media, where users speculated about possible tension or jealousy involving Roccuzzo. However, Martínez said the reality was different from what was suggested online.

Martínez revealed during a conversation on the stream A Punto that Roccuzzo reached out to her directly amid negative comments. “De repente me escribió diciéndome: ‘Sofi, no te preocupes, a la gilada ni cabida'”, Martínez recalled. She described the gesture as reassuring during a time when social media criticism was difficult to manage.

Martínez added that she appreciated Roccuzzo’s support and noted there was no obligation for her to intervene. “Me escribió cuando inventaban cosas o se generaba una situación que no tiene por qué existir,” she said.

Reflecting on the viral interview from December 13, 2022—when she told Messi he had already impacted every Argentine regardless of the final result—Martínez called it a milestone in her career. With speculation now addressed, she expressed admiration for Roccuzzo and shared her hope to interview her one day.
