Spotify announced on Apr. 9 a new update to its artificial intelligence integration strategy, introducing podcasts into its automatic playlist creation tool called “Suggested Playlist.” Previously focused mainly on music, this feature will now include spoken content to enhance the discovery of new podcasts within the platform, an area where Spotify has been investing heavily in recent years.

The tool remains in beta and will be available to Premium users in markets where it is already active: the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Sweden, and New Zealand.

With this update, users can create personalized English-language podcast playlists by entering written prompts. To use the feature, they must select “Create” and then choose “Suggested Playlists,” where they can request specific recommendations based on their interests such as true crime, current events, science or wellness.

Among other features introduced with this rollout are options for automatic updates of these playlists. Users can set how often their playlists refresh—daily or weekly (with selection of specific days), or opt out of automatic updates entirely. Additionally, each time a new episode is added to a playlist, Spotify will provide a brief explanation about why that content was recommended.

Spotify said that this new tool responds to growing demand for content discovery on its platform. According to company data shared in the announcement release text, more than 34 million podcasts are discovered for the first time every week by service users. The company also continues strengthening its creator ecosystem; earlier this year it relaxed requirements for monetizing video podcasts and confirmed there are now over 530,000 video podcasts available on Spotify.

The expansion reflects Spotify’s ongoing commitment to supporting both listeners seeking fresh audio experiences and creators looking for broader audiences.
