The Center of Secondary and Higher Education Teachers (Cedems) said on April 3 that it is on alert after reporting significant salary deductions by the provincial government for strike days.
The issue arose as the public administration payment schedule began, with teachers being among the first to notice reductions in their salaries. Governor Carlos Sadir had previously said that days not worked would be deducted, but union representatives were surprised by the scale of the amounts withheld.
Union delegates reported that deductions varied according to teaching hours, with some educators seeing reductions of 180,000 pesos at the lowest end and others facing cuts between 300,000 and up to 600,000 pesos. Cedems also said there was a lack of administrative rigor in how payments were processed.
According to Cedems, some teachers who did not participate in strikes also experienced salary deductions. Additionally, educators who recently took on new hours did not receive payment for those assignments.
Cedems said it will remain on permanent alert due to what it describes as a breach of agreements and a direct penalty against the right to protest.
