A thirteen-year-old boy was accused on March 29 of intentionally starting a fire that destroyed a school in the province of Misiones. The incident took place in San Antonio and has caused concern among the local educational community.
The fire affected School No. 102, located in Paraje Central, where flames consumed the entire building. According to reports, four classrooms, the principal’s office, bathrooms, furniture, computers, teaching materials, and historical records were all lost.
The blaze broke out on Saturday afternoon and was noticed by neighbors who alerted authorities. Police officers and firefighters responded to the call but were unable to save anything from inside as the fire had already spread throughout the building by their arrival.
Investigators determined through expert analysis that the fire was set intentionally. Based on witness statements and investigative work, they identified a thirteen-year-old who had reportedly been seen at the scene shortly before the fire began.
The case is now being handled by Eldorado’s Juvenile Court. The boy’s parents have been notified and he is currently under judicial supervision while authorities continue their investigation with involvement from child welfare agencies.
The destruction has left a nearly fifty-year-old institution out of operation—a school considered central not only for education but also for social support within its community.
