A couple died after becoming trapped in their car during a storm in Tucumán, bringing the death toll from torrential rains and flooding in the province to three as of April 5.
The incident occurred when Mariano Robles, 28, and Solana Albornoz, 32, went missing Saturday night after leaving a wedding. Their bodies were found on Sunday following a search involving firefighters, family members, and security forces. The couple’s two young children were not with them at the time.
In addition to Robles and Albornoz, a twelve-year-old boy died from electrocution in San Miguel de Tucumán while playing near accumulated water during the storm. The recent weather has caused material damage across several towns and led authorities to declare an alert throughout the province.
Robles was employed by the provincial Caja Popular while Albornoz worked at the Casa de Gobierno. According to local media reports citing family members, their last contact was around 9 p.m. Saturday when they said they were waiting inside their vehicle for water levels to recede before heading home. Their car was later found overturned near SMATA club about 400 meters from Route 9; it had been swept away by floodwaters into an irrigation canal.
Other affected areas include Monteros, Chicligasta, and Alpachiri where severe flooding damaged homes and roads. Some parts of Tucumán received up to 270 millimeters of rain within hours—exceeding drainage capacity for streets and highways.
Regional authorities have advised residents to avoid flooded zones and follow official communications for safety updates. The local Ministry of Public Health reminded citizens that emergency lines remain available for civil defense (103), medical emergencies (107), as well as tele-nursing, tele-psychology, and tele-obstetrics services.
