Tieto, in partnership with Tissue World, has released the Global Tissue Market Study 2025. The study gathered insights from 82 tissue-producing companies across 24 countries and five continents. It examines how the industry is shifting its strategic focus amid changing market conditions.
The research centers on four main themes: market trends, digitalization and artificial intelligence, efficiency, and sustainability. A comparison with Tieto’s previous 2022 study shows that companies are now placing greater emphasis on customer satisfaction as a core strategic goal. This marks a change from past years when profitability and sustainability were more prominent priorities. While profitability remains important, it is increasingly pursued through operational efficiency and customer-centric approaches rather than as an isolated target.
Digitalization is now seen as a key driver of business transformation within the sector. Systems such as MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), and S&OP (Sales & Operations Planning) supported by artificial intelligence are being adopted to enable data-driven operations.
Jarmo Ropponen, Head of APAC and Head of Tissue, Pulp, Paper & Fibre at Tieto Indtech, stated: “Continuous operational efficiency improvements, optimising energy use, the usage of raw materials, and meeting regulatory compliance cannot be managed without advanced information systems providing high-quality and trustworthy data. The new technology fast development, especially in digital and GenAI, also underscores the importance of capable and committed talents with combined new technology and industry know-how. This, together with aging and industry transformation, explains why leading players are investing heavily in upskilling across digital, operational, and industry-specific domains to build resilient, future-ready businesses.”
The study also found that some companies are falling behind in adapting to these changes. To remain competitive in a volatile market environment, firms need to integrate sustainability and efficiency into their business models while building strong digital foundations for daily operations.
Tieto provides software solutions for various industries through specialized businesses such as Tieto Caretech, Tieto Banktech, Tieto Indtech, and its consulting division. The company employs about 15,000 experts worldwide. Its annual revenue is around EUR 2 billion. Tieto shares are traded on stock exchanges in Helsinki, Stockholm, and Oslo.
