The team from Tren Solar de la Quebrada presented its educational tourism initiative during the “Viajar es Aprender” convention in Salta, according to a March 31 announcement. The event was organized by Community Travel.
The proposal highlights the Tren Solar as the first tourist train in Latin America powered by solar energy. Organizers say this technological development positions Jujuy as a leader in sustainable mobility.
The train’s route passes through notable towns of the Quebrada de Humahuaca, including Volcán, Tumbaya, Purmamarca, and Maimará. This area is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The journey allows visitors to connect with local landscapes and cultural heritage.
In addition to its touristic role, the Tren Solar integrates educational content about renewable energy, technology innovation, and sustainable development. Its fully electric operation uses solar power and lithium batteries. Organizers say this makes it an effective tool for promoting environmental awareness and energy transition topics on site.
During the convention, representatives shared these features with educators and travel operators to form partnerships for future educational trips. The experience aims to combine science education with cultural exchange.
The project also emphasizes support for local communities by involving artisans and entrepreneurs from the region in its activities. According to organizers, this approach helps strengthen economic and social development in Quebrada de Humahuaca.
