The municipality of Tumbaya, led by Javier Medina, announced on April 7 its ongoing support for the liturgical program celebrating the Virgin of Copacabana de Punta Corral. The religious figure will remain in the town’s historic church to give blessings until May 2, when it will return to its sanctuary.
The event holds significance for local residents and visitors who come daily to express gratitude and participate in religious services. Until the second Sunday after Easter at 5 p.m., mass will be held with various intentions. On April 10 at 11:30 a.m., there will be a mass dedicated to the Tumbaya municipality; on April 11 at 10 a.m., another service is planned for the parish Nuestra Señora de Loreto from Alto Comedero; and on April 12 at 10 a.m., there will be another mass followed by a blessing of the horseback procession with the Virgin at 4 p.m.
Earlier this week, six municipal workers were sent by Tumbaya’s administration to collect waste left along pilgrimage routes and at Punta Corral. The cleanup effort began under unfavorable weather conditions, which worsened due to persistent drizzle and falling temperatures.
Despite these challenges, many people continue arriving in Tumbaya each day seeking blessings from the Virgin and participating in religious ceremonies led by parish priest Abraham Pereira.
The festivities are expected to continue drawing visitors until early May as preparations remain underway for upcoming masses and processions.
