The National Meteorological Service announced on March 30 a yellow alert for storms expected to affect several areas of the Puna region in Jujuy on Tuesday, March 31.
The warning applies to the regions of Cochinoca, Humahuaca, Rinconada, Santa Catalina, Tilcara, Tumbaya and Yavi. The forecast indicates strong storms during the night with potential to cause damage and temporary disruption of daily activities.
In San Salvador de Jujuy, temperatures are predicted to range from a minimum of 16°C to a maximum of 25°C. However, due to high humidity levels estimated at around 69%, the perceived temperature could exceed 30°C. Winds from the northeast are expected at approximately 12 km/h during what is anticipated to be a hot and unstable day.
Authorities have issued several recommendations for those under yellow alert conditions: avoid going outside unless necessary; do not take out garbage; clean drains and gutters; stay away from flood-prone areas; and cut off electricity supply if water enters homes.
The storm alert highlights ongoing weather instability in parts of Jujuy as local residents prepare for possible disruptions.
